Updates under way
This week is “updates week”, both Helpdesk and Surveys will have new updates which will include fixes and a few new things on both of them. Details on each of the updates will be made available on release.
Christmas time
It’s a pleasure to announce that Components Lab was able to get 100 toys to distribute to children during Christmas. It’s only a small contribution which we’ve been able to increase every year and that’s also due to our increasing customers which we want to which a great Christmas for all of you.
Complicated weeks
The last two weeks we have been under a tremendous stress with flu crossing among our team. On a small company things can get really difficult and that’s what happen to us.
The update for MaQma Helpdesk had to be postponed and is now available for download. Another important change in the licensing of the component is that now it’s GPL and not encoded anymore. The management of two different editions was a much bigger work than only supporting one. This way we can place our efforts in only one version and provide a better component to everyone. We’ll also offer some more services around the component which will be available soon. ionCube is no longer a requirement of the component with the adoption of GPL except for the trials.
We hope that all of our customers agree and understand this change. We are still with some difficulties until everybody is back but things will be back on track again during the next few days.
The last few days we’ve done some changes already in the website but it’s possible that some things are still to be changed. If you find anything please let us know.
Share users in multiple Joomla websites
We’ve built a small plugin which allows you to have the same user accounts in multiple Joomla websites. This is a great plugin for people/companies that have several products in separated domains and want for example to have one common support website, online store, forums or other.
Currently the plugin requires you to have one master website (this is to manage the users table ID) and if want to implement it with already one website with users you must export the users to the new “slave” websites so that they start all with the same user accounts since the plugin (at this moment) only takes care of new registrations and changes to accounts.
We’re still working a little bit further on it and we’ll release it soon.
The technical requirements for the plugin to work are:
- Joomla !.5.x
- cURL in PHP
To export the users of a current website to the slaves you can use phpMyAdmin for example. We’ll provide a video showing how to do it on release.
To install it you just need to download it and use the Joomla installation tool. By default it’s not enabled so you must then go to the Plugins and select it. Once you’re in it you must set the Master and the Slaves websites. The slaves websites must be separated by commas (,).
Now, you must repeat this to all websites and it’s probably a good thing to have them offline until all is completed.
See the example video below of the plugin working.
Will it work for external systems? Probably we’ll do it, our plans right now is to fix any problems it may have and later we’ll see.
